The Ag Magazine is published by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. Red clover (seen here and on the front and back covers), was introduced to Kentucky from Europe when the state was settled in the 1700s. This hardy forage, the most widely used of the true clovers, is easy to establish and is commonly used as part of a hay and pasture mixture for both horses and cattle. Kentucky's status as a grazing animal production state is based on location, growing season, climate, and the availability of good legumes and grasses. The red clover images were photographed by William Mesner, who retired July 31 as photographer in Agricultural Communications.
