Animal Science

Animal Science is the specialization of agriculture that studies the production of farm animals, those generally raised to be food products. Students in this major have the opportunity to choose one of these three options to pursue: animal production, dairy production, equine production.

The animal, and food, science programs at the University of Kentucky include research in basic and applied science, and extension work. Animal science studies of swine, sheep, poultry, horses, dairy cattle, and beef cattle are being conducted to determine the best ways to maintain and improve safe, affordable supplies of food and fiber. For more information on this program see the Department of Animal Sciences homepage.
