Tutorials, Training and Computer Help Links

The Agricultural Information Center not only provides information and access to resources as part of the university's land grant mission, it also provides training in the use of the information systems that deliver that information.

  • Desktop Training Services - UK Information Systems offers Web-based courses in computer technology, including desktop applications, programming, web design, networking, and databases.
  • Information Skills Tutorial
    Tutorial in five units from the Kentucky Virtual Library.
  • Information Technology Customer Service Center Help Desk
    Maintained by UK Information Systems, provides answers to many common software-related problems as well as hardware recommendations for computers and peripherals to be used on campus.
  • Internet Tutorials
    Produced by the University at Albany Libraries. Tutorials cover using and searching the Internet, browsers, and other software related-topics.

  • Land-Grant Training Alliance Online Lessons
    The Land-Grant Training Alliance is an informal, unfunded group of computer education and technology professionals, most of whom are employed by universities within the United States Land-Grant University System. Their site offers tutorials on Word Processing, Presentation Graphics, Spreadsheets & Databases, and the Internet.

Adjunct to the training provided by the AIC is information about the software and hardware products that the university uses on a regular basis. This is provided as a service to our users who may need additional tech support that the AIC cannot readily provide, or information such as vendor contact numbers or prices for hardware and software.

Below are a list of links to various hardware and software vendors, plus additional links to helpful web sites both on and off campus.

Hardware Links

    Apple computers can be found in many parts of campus.
  • Dell
    Dell PCs are used in the AIC's computer lab, offices, and other areas of the facility.
  • Gateway
    Gateway computers, particularly laptops, can be found in use around campus, including one used by the AIC staff.
  • IBM
    IBM is the provider of many on the AIC's laptop computers, including those in the Portable electronic classroom Units (PUs) and the new Electronic Training Room.

    This site is the web interface for university employees who want to obtain a copy of software that has been licensed by UK. Here you will also find the latest list of recommended desktop software products.

    Makers of Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Pagemaker, and host of other useful print and web publishing applications used here on campus.
  • Macromedia
    Dreamweaver, the standard for many web page developers on campus is perhaps Macromedia's best known product, however they also make a variety of other web authoring tools including Flash.

  • Microsoft Corporation
    The official web site for Microsoft. Microsoft products from operating systems to office applications can be found on virtually every PC on campus.
  • Netscape
    Netscape Interernet browsing software is used on some of the PCs in the AIC.
  • Norton Anti-Virus
    Direct link to Symantec's Norton web site.
