4H ENVIRONMENTAL CAMP…Each summer hundreds of children around Kentucky will head off for a week of fun and learning at 4-H Camp. But many children get their first introduction to 4-H Camp by attending a two-day Environmental Camp.

 

4H CAPITOL EXPERIENCE ...For the third straight year 4-Hers from all across Kentucky headed to the state capitol in Frankfort for a 4-H Capitol Experience. More than fifteen hundred 4-Hers, volunteers and Extension personnel participated in this years event.

 
 

MUHLENBERG TEENS ...Some teenagers in Muhlenberg County are fighting back to keep other teens and younger children from falling prey to the use of dangerous drugs and narcotics. The teenagers have formed a group called STAND, Students Teaching About Narcotics Dangers.

 

OPERATION MILITARY KIDS…Is a project designed to lift the spirits of children whose parents are being called to active duty in the Kentucky National Guard and Reserve.  The 4-H Volunteer Forum held in Lexington in February gave 4-Hers and volunteers the chance to fill backpacks, called Hero Packs, with items to be given to the children when their parents are deployed.
 

 

ALL TERRAIN VEHICLE SAFETY FUNDING…Last year the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Farm and Home Safety Program joined forces with 4-H to do ATV safety training. With the success of that training, the KDA is now asking the Kentucky Legislature for money to more training.

 

4-H MEANS BUSINESS ...A 4-H program in Madison County is helping prepare young people to be future entrepreneurs. Its called 4H means business and that was the goal of a showcase and sale just before the holidays. 

  ATV SAFETY PROGRAM ...They seem to be in the news almost weekly, a child or teenager has been killed or severely injured in an all terrain vehicle accident.  Some people in Muhlenberg County said enough and were awarded a grant from the National 4-H Organization to have a two-day ATV safety program at the West Ky 4-H Camp.
  STAR CHEFS ...Young people ages 10 to 12 years old learned how to be Star Chefs in a summer enrichment program in Mason County. It helped some of the students to get over their fears of cooking and using sharp knives, while learning how to read a recipe and other techniques.  
 

KOOLSVILLE ...You wont find Koolsville on any map, but the made-up community did exist for a week in Northern Kentucky. 9-to-12 year olds created Koolsville in a Mini-Society Project at the Boone County Extension Office.

 

  SAFETY DAY CAMP...With schools out for summer vacation and children doing more activities its time to remind them to play it safe. That was the message behind a Safety Day Camp organized by UKs Cooperative Extension Service along with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and other partners.
