| AGRIPEDIA began as a set
of instructional notes for a single course at the University of
Kentucky, GEN 100 - Issues in Agriculture - and has grown to include
class notes and material from many classes (see
class menu). In keeping with the philosophy of the Agriculture
College, AGRIPEDIA is designed to demonstrate the complexity of
agriculture and the manifold effects that every issue creates.
This web-based project was made possible by USDA
Higher Education Programs, more specifically, the Higher
Education Challenge Grants Program. The USDA Higher Education
Challenge Grants Program "promotes excellence in undergraduate
teaching programs in the food and agricultural sciences. Projects
selected competitively and supported under this program address
state, regional, national, or international educational needs,
involve creative or novel approaches toward addressing such
needs, encourage and facilitate better working relationships
in the university science and education community, and result
in benefits which transcend project duration and USDA support."
This project is the result of cooperation among many departments
within the College, most
notably the College of Agriculture Office
of Undergraduate Instruction, Ag.
Communications Services, including the Distance
Learning section, as well as numerous faculty members in
various departments within the College of Agriculture.
