Initiation Ceremony and BanquetEach spring the Kentucky chapter hosts a banquet and awards ceremony for new and current members. Student awards are presented for academic achievement and faculty awards are presented in the areas of research, extension and teaching. Other awards presented at the banquet include an Alumni Award and Distinguished Achievement in Agriculture Award. For more information on the awards and nomination process, refer to the awards section of this website. The 2009 banquet will be held on March 24, 2009 at the Student Center on main campus. A reception will begin at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner at 6:30 pm.Distinguished Lecturer SeriesThis Gamma Sigma Delta event showcases faculty members whose contributions to the College of Agriculture exemplify the land-grant philosophy in teaching, research and service. Each recipient will conduct a seminar in the spring. For a list of previous lecture series, refer to the Distinguished Lecturer Series section of this website. The 2007 award winners were:Dr. Keith Schillo, Animal & Food Sciences Dr. Peter Nagy, Plant Pathology Dr. David Ditsch, Plant and Soil Sciences 2009 seminars will be given by: Dr. Robert Coleman, Animal & Food Sciences Dr. J.D. Reddy Palli, Entomology Staff AppreciationEach year the local Gamma Sigma Delta chapter co-sponsors with the UK College of Agriculture Alumni Association and Partners in Agriculture awards to recognize staff members in the College for achievements, dedication and service in agricultural science and education. Each nominee receives a certificate and is recognized individually at an awards cermony in association with the College's Staff Appreciation Day in September. Six nominees are selected and receive a monetary award and plaque. A permanent plaque with recipients' names is displayed in the lobby of the Agriculture Science Center.New Faculty OrientationThe Kentucky chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta sponsors an orientation program for new faculty members in the College of Agriculture. New faculty members are invited to learn more about Gamma Sigma Delta and other associations within the College. This event is held every two years and was hosted most recently in the fall of 2007.Retirees' BrunchA popular event sponsored by GSD is the College of Agriculture Retirees' Brunch. This event brings retirees back to campus to socialize with current employees and other retirees.Retirement Reception and Recognition ProgramGamma Sigma Delta, the Ag. Faculty Council and the Office of the Dean co-host a retirement reception. This event honors recent retirees through recognition and highlights of service. Service recognition of faculty and staff is included in this event. |
