Amanda Adams obtained her Bachelors of Science with a major in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Equestrian Business Management in 2003 from Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri. During her undergraduate career she worked in Equine Research Development for both Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Saint Joseph, Missouri and Intervet, Inc., DeSoto, Kansas. Subsequently she conducted her Ph.D. research under the direction of Dr. David W. Horohov at the Gluck Equine Research Center, University of Kentucky, studying immunosenescent and inflamm-aging changes in equine immune function, and received her degree in 2008. Currently, she is a post-doctoral scholar in Dr. David Horohov’s laboratory. Her current research is focused on determining the effects of dietary components including tocopherols, omega fatty acids and plant polyphenols on age-associated changes of immune and inflammatory responses in old horses and to investigate mechanisms responsible for inflamm-aging that may involve T cell lipid raft signaling. In addition, she is working on other research projects that include characterization of the foal’s immune response, in particular, the cell-mediated responses to early influenza vaccination and to further understand the process of maternal interference. |
