Slow food in the Bluegrass - are you not quite certain what this means? A seminar November 21 will provide you with an opportunity to learn about the slow food movement both locally and globally. The panel discussion, presented as part of the Rural & Development Sociology Seminar Series, will be held from 3-5 p.m. in the President's Room at the Singletary Center for the Arts.
Panelists include three local speakers involved in the slow foods movement, all of whom recently attended the Terra Madre conference in Turin, Italy. Jim Embry, founder of the Sustainable Communities Initiative in Lexington, has been a community activist for more than 40 years. Through the initiative, Jim is working to promote sustainable living in the Lexington area. Susan Carson Lambert is one of the first members of the Bluegrass Convivium of Slow Food USA. She is co-owner of a renewable energy service company, a gardener, cook and beekeeper. Bob Perry is an avid gardener, food researcher, and self-taught chef. He currently serves as coordinator of the UK College of Agriculture Food Systems Initiative. All three panelists have unique backgrounds and will share from their experiences with sustainability and the slow foods movement.
