The month of February has been quite busy for MAT Club members. Though initially postponed due to icy weather, we started the month off with a wonderful store visit to Bluegrass Bride, located off of Tates Creek Road. Though the club usually offers guest speakers during our monthly meetings, this was the first event that had been held in an actual store. Our visit gave us great insight into the bridal industry and helped us to see the many facets of owning your own business. After touring the showroom and browsing through racks of beautiful couture bridal gowns and social attire, we sat down to learn more about the timeline of the company and discovered their passion for what they do. During our time there, owners Susan and Anna Johnson introduced us to several of their friends who work in various parts of the Bridal and Wedding industry. Those introduced included renowned Professional Make-up Artist Ana Crane-Simpson and Jaimeson Gann of the Jacki Allen Wedding Planner Company, as well as  Andrea Smith who aspires to open her own bakery here in Lexington. It was very helpful and interesting to see the many aspects of the planning process and the creative elements behind each segment.

The second meeting of the semester was held on February 11th at 6:00 pm. in room 304 of Erikson Hall. We were very pleased to have Holly Pennebaker serve as our guest speaker and to talk about her experience in the retail industry. Holly relayed that her experience as an intern with Chanel and Neiman Marcus had led her to discover her dream to become a Fashion Editor. She currently is employed at Louisville Magazine as a fashion stylist.

After the guest speaker, club members prepared decorations and items for the bake sale and discussed the Atlanta trip which will be March 27th through the 29th.

The bake sale was held the following day on the steps of Erikson Hall. Many students and staff came out to support the MAT Club and buy sweet treats for Valentines Day.
