January 2011

Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles Club
January 18, 2011
Stuckert Career Center

There were 21 members in attendance for the first meeting of the semester.  The meeting began with President, Paige Patterson reviewing the agenda and asking the officers to introduce themselves.  Officers for the 2011 year are as follows:

President: Paige Patterson
Vice-President: Elizabeth Griffith
Historian: Katie Graft
Campus Relations: Caroline Frederickson
Treasurer: Emily Mahonski
Secretary: Meredith Cinnamon
Ag Student Council: Madison Stephens

Dues for old members are $10 and $20 for new members.  They are due by February 28th or you will be removed from the listserv and will not be able to participate in the club.  Please pay your dues at the next meeting or drop them off to Ms. Joshi in her office.

The next item of business was the Color Me Spring - an afterhours fashion affair fashion show.  We are collaborating with Hospitality Management and Tourism (HMT) Club to put together an upscale fashion show.  The date is still being finalized along with the location.  However, you can stop by the MAT Club board to pick up a donation letter for the silent auction.  Every member needs to bring at least one item for the silent auction.  You will be given 10 points towards the Atlanta trip.  We also need models (20 points).

We will be taking a trip to Carhartt in Irvine, KY on February 25th.  The tour will begin promptly at 1:00pm and travel time is approximately 1 ½ hours.  We will be touring the Administration building and the sewing plant.

The Atlanta trip will take place Thursday, March 31st to Saturday, April 2nd.  There will be a store visit, trip to the mart, and dinner at Hard Rock Café.  Please sign up on the board if you are seriously interested.  The cost will be under $100, potentially much less, dependent upon how many points you have.  The more points...the cheaper the price!

The meeting closed with Ms. Williams from the Career Center giving advice on how to stand out when applying for internships.  Her tips include gaining valuable experience to express to the employer doing your interview and always sending a cover letter with your resume.  You can check out the career center resources at www.uky.edu/careercenter or stop by during their drop-in hours Monday-Thursday from 11am to 3pm.

Next Meeting:  Wednesday, February 16th @ 5pm in Erikson room 304!
