This was followed by an overview of the Denim Drive and the Denim Drive Training, by Paige and Cotton Incorporated representatives. They explained that the goal this year is to raise awareness on campus and in the community for the next 6 weeks through various media outlets, tabling events, and community events. They encouraged all of us to participate in the denim drive as for it is a great cause. The denim is cotton and is recycled into safer insulation for homes being built in areas of need, Joplin for example. The insulation helps keep homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The slogan again this year is "Drop Your Jeans for a Good Cause" to catch the attention of students across campus. We were encouraged to come up with creative marketing ideas and be enthusiastic about gathering more than the nearly 11,000 pairs of jeans last year!

For the Community tabling event we will be rewarded $250, $500 for the first 500 pairs of jeans collected, and an extra $250 for exceeding the amount of 500 pairs. There will be bins set up in places across campus, such as dining halls, residence halls, and other classroom buildings. The denim will be temporarily stored in the Textile Lab on the 3rd floor of Erikson Hall. Everyone was encouraged to come help do this when they have a few extra minutes between classes because there are a lot of jeans coming through from places like Lexington Christian Academy, Lexington Catholic, other schools, fire departments, sorority houses, extension offices, students, faculty etc.  Dr. Easter also spoke about the overwhelming support we receive from Carhartt in Irvine, Ky being our largest contributor to the Denim Drive.

The Cotton Incorpated Representatives explained the PR that goes along with the Denim Drive as well as some frequently asked questions. They gave us a list of promotional items well will be given such as banners, posters, flyers, tshirts, sweatshirts, coffee cup sleeves, and flyers on pizza boxes. Also, the denim does not have to be washed beforehand.

Paige concluded the meeting by thanking everyone for coming, it was a great turnout! The next few weeks we will be focusing on the denim drive. All members were told to contact Courtney Bullard, secretary, to pay dues (her email is listed above). If you cannot reach Courtney, feel free to contact Dr. Wesley because she can collect your dues as well. She encouraged everyone to come to the next meeting on October 12th at 4:45 room 304!!
