searchKate Perkins - Dietetics Intern
Kate Perkins is a dietetics administration major who is currently completing her internship. In an electronic interview she shares with us her experiences:
Where are you completing your internship?
“UK Dining Services, Community Action Council in Lexington, Kentucky and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Kentucky.”
What is your typical day as an intern like?
“Currently at UK Dining, I cook and learn about managing a food service location. At the Community Action Council, I will work with a dietitian who works with low-income families in the community. At the hospital, I will work with a clinical dietitian, see patients and chart.”
What is one of the things you learned as a student that you use often as an intern?
“Hard work pays off and you can learn from all kinds of people. I am not only learning from my direct preceptor, but everyone else at the facility. Also, people notice when you work hard and it will pay off in the future.”
If you could share one piece of advice for other students in you major who are preparing to complete an internship what would it be?
“Be prepared for a busy and hectic time in your life but also one of the most enjoyable. It helps you determine your likes and dislikes so you can better prepare for your future career.“
