Cornus florida 'Appalachian Spring'

2010 Theodore Klein Plant Award Winner

Cornus florida ‘Appalachian Spring’ – Appalachian Spring Dogwood

What Kentucky garden would be complete without at least one of our native flowering dogwoods? ‘Appalachian Spring’ is a new selection that was introduced as the most disease-resistant cultivar on the market today. Dirr says of it in his Manual of Woody Landscape Plants ( 2009) "The lone worthy Discula survivor collected in the Catoctin Mountians, Maryland; displayed high resistance, not immuneity in screening studies;" Classic white spring blooms, bright red fall fruit and red/orange fall foliage combine to make the perfect package. Plant in rich, moist soil in partial shade.
