I have been conducting reclamation research on the reclamation of mined land since 1972. This began on western Kentucky on mine spoils or overburden materials and since the passage of SMCRA in 1977 the focus has been more on prime farmland. As a result of measuring corn yields, this research focused on non-mine land doing research now known as precision agriculture.
