All 1890 institutions that are full or system ADEC members, or those that
may serve in a lead role with other ADEC affiliated institutions, are eligible
to compete for this $2,000 annual award and plaque.
An institutional nomination may be prepared by any ADEC member and the peer review panel will include representatives from 1862, 1890 and 1994 institutions. Please see the ADEC Quality Distance Education Principles (http://www.adec.edu/about.html) for additional background.
A brief nomination must be submitted by 8:00 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, January 31, 2007. The nomination form template is located below. Those selected as finalists will be notified and asked to complete the full set of documentation required for the award which may include work samples and letters of support. The final proposals can be submitted to the ADEC office in hard copy or electronically (CD ROM submissions are also acceptable). Part 1 . Nomination (To be completed by the nominator)
This section requests essential background information on the 1890 lead
institution you are nominating and selected information of any other institution(s)
that may make up a consortium.
Part 2. Nominee's Summary Vita (To be completed by the nominator and/or
nominee)
This section solicits information on the education, professional experience,
other awards for distance education efforts, and professional development of
the 1890 institution member. Short vitae should be included for institution
distance education leaders.
Part 3. Nominee's Statement on Distance Education Philosophy (To be completed
by the nominee)
This section provides an opportunity for the 1890 lead institution to include
concise statements of its views of distance education and its role in higher
education.
Part 4. Distance Education Experience (To be completed by the nominator
and/or nominee)
This section should provide information on the institution member's distance
education experiences including courses taught (both credit and non-credit),
continuing education courses, workshops, and other outreach education efforts;
audiences reached including numbers and location of learners; distance education
methodologies utilized; sustainability of each program or project listed and
service to further enhance opportunities for distance education. (A more detailed
explanation will be required at the final proposal stage including sample video,
web site materials, CDs or other evidence of methodologies used to deliver
content at a distance. Supplemental materials should be limited to no more
than a 15 minute video, summary listing of web site information, etc. [samples
ONLY]. Total written materials not to exceed six pages.)
The nominee review process will be by a panel selected by ADEC which will include university faculty and administrators; ADEC Board of Directors, Program Panel and/or PCO members; and may also include representatives from other professional associations or agencies.
Evaluation Criteria:
15% Creativity - Must be able to describe the innovative and unique approaches developed to initiate and implement distance education modes, courses and/or programs. Documentation should include a description of the creative approach and why it is innovative as well as specific examples/samples of work. Methods and content creation approaches should be included.
15% Vision - This requires a statement of the institution's vision with respect to distance education and information technology. Documentation should be included (outlining who has been involved in creation of the vision and how the vision has been and continues to be implemented).
20% Collaboration - This criteria requires a description of partners involved in creating the distance education products and programs. Examples include the involvement of other 1890 institutions, other ADEC members, government agencies, non-profit organizations, foundations and others.
25% Resourcefulness - This criteria requires a description of who, what, when and how the resources necessary to build a strong distance education program were mobilized.
25% Institutional Capacity Building - This criteria requires a description of target audiences/learners, project and program outcomes, both internally and externally – current and expected, evaluation results and/or changes and improvements attributable to the efforts. A description of faculty and staff involvement and differences resulting as capacity has increased should be included.
