LEXINGTON,
Ky. (Sept. 24, 2003) - An agreement signed Sept. 16 by David Mohney, dean
of the University of Kentucky College of Design, and Scott Smith, dean of
the UK College of Agriculture, will strengthen a partnership to better
serve Kentuckians. The
agreement creates a formal partnership between the College of Agriculture
and College of Design to work on topics in housing, home environment and
historic preservation. The
School of Interior Design and the UK Cooperative Extension Service’s
Family and Consumer Sciences unit will jointly implement the agreement.
“This
is another big step in what has become a truly significant trend for
Kentucky Cooperative Extension – new partnerships.
Agreements like this one allow us to broaden our mission and reach
out to new clientele in a high impact way without adding new resources,”
Smith said. “The goal of our College of Design is to improve the quality of life for Kentuckians, and this gives us a new platform and a broader base to make that happen,” Mohney said. In
addition to the overall partnership memorandum, a specific agreement was
executed to provide for Extension home furnishings specialist Linda Adler
to have appointment in the College of Design in addition to her
Cooperative Extension Service appointment.
The agreement defines her responsibilities under the new
partnership. Adler will work with College of Design faculty in developing
programs in interior design and historic preservation; conducting
community programs in rural tourism; providing technical review for
educational materials; and participating in multidisciplinary teams for
program development and instruction. “The
needs of our statewide clientele cut across a broad spectrum of areas and
this partnership is a great example of the kind of relationship that’s
going to allow us to connect people in their local communities with
expertise on campus that can address their needs at the local level,”
said Larry Turner, associate dean of Extension and associate director for
Cooperative Extension in the College of Agriculture. Co-signors
of the Memorandum of Agreement are Larry Turner; Ann Dickson, director of
the School of Interior Design; Bonnie Tanner, assistant Extension director
for Family and Consumer Sciences; and Linda Adler, Extension specialist
for home furnishings. Source: Larry Turner, 859-257-4302 Return to Main News page. |
