LEXINGTON, Ky., (Sept. 1, 2005) – The
University of Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Initiative’s third annual Kentucky
Nonprofit Leadership Forum is Oct. 6 at the Holiday Inn North in Lexington. The
Leadership Initiative will also host a preconference workshop, “Cultivating and
Soliciting Major Gifts,” on Oct. 5.
The forum provides an excellent opportunity for executive directors, board
members, fund development, finance, program staff and volunteers of nonprofit
organizations to hear from local and national speakers in the nonprofit sector
on a variety of topics including: fund development, volunteer management, human
resources and financial management, said Danielle Clore, Initiative director.
This year’s forum features a variety of experts, including Turney Berry, an
attorney with Wyatt, Tarrant and Combs listed in The Best Lawyers in America -
Trusts and Estate and a member of the Legal Advisory Committee of the Council on
Foundations. Berry will present two sessions on planned giving. Michael
Lichtenstein, vice president of Marks Paneth Strategy Group of New York, will
present four sessions, including: “Boosting Your Nonprofit’s Earned Income” and
“Using a Business Plan in Your Nonprofit Organization.”
William T. Sturtevant, vice president for principal gifts at the University of
Illinois Foundation, is the preconference workshop speaker. Sturtevant is a
nationally recognized specialist in major and deferred gifts and planning and
solicitation strategies, Clore said. He is the author of the best-selling book,
The Artful Journey: Cultivating and Soliciting the Major Gift.
The 2005 forum will also feature the first Fifth Third Bank Innovative Nonprofit
Award. The award will be given to a Kentucky nonprofit organization in
recognition of implementation of inventive, nontraditional programs or methods
that effectively and efficiently meet community needs. The organization will
have demonstrated creativity and vision in finding solutions to address
community issues.
Registration for the Nonprofit Leadership Forum must be received by Oct. 3. To
receive an early registration discount, registration must be received by Sept.

The Nonprofit Leadership Initiative is an outreach program of the University of
