LEXINGTON, Ky., (Oct. 11, 2006) – Ken Blanchard, co-author of
“The One-Minute Manager” and, most recently, “Leading at a
Higher Level,” will be in Lexington Nov. 8 for the second annual
Unbridling the Spirit of Leadership in Kentucky Communities
Conference.
The University of Kentucky Center for Leadership Development is
partnering with Commerce Lexington Inc. and the Kentucky
Educational Development Corp. to offer this full-day leadership
event at Lexington Center’s Bluegrass Ballroom. It is open to
high school students and adults.
“We want to bring business, government and education together to
start working as a team to build stronger communities in
Kentucky,” said Grace Gorrell, assistant director for the UK
Center for Leadership Development. “A key building block in that
is to have strong leaders, and that’s what this conference is
all about. Most companies in Kentucky have fewer than 25
employees; government and nonprofit organizations have limited
resources, so we want to bring in the nationally known teachers
that they aren’t able to host.”
Blanchard will emphasize keys to leading at a higher level in
four sessions: Set your Sights on the Right Target and Vision;
Treat Your Customers Right; Treat Your People Right; and Have
the Right Kind of Leadership. The conference will begin with
registration at 8 a.m. and end with a question-and-answer
session from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
“We want to inspire participants to continue leadership
development in their organizations throughout the year and help
those organizations find the local resources that can assist
them in that effort,” Gorrell said.
In 2005, more than 1,400 people attended the inaugural
leadership conference with John Maxwell. Gorrell encourages
elected county officials, nonprofit organizations, university
officials, university faculty and staff, school superintendents,
trainers from large corporations, high school and college
students, church leaders and others interested in developing
leadership skills to attend.
“We really want to equip people with the leadership skills they
need to make their workplaces more efficient and satisfying,”
she said. “Participants are encouraged to make requests for
other training opportunities the leadership center may be able
to offer in the future.”
Registration is $99 for adults and $50 for high school students,
which includes all workshops and materials. Forms are available
here. Fax or e-mail completed forms to
