Web Site Provides Drought Information
By
Aimee Nielson
LEXINGTON, Ky., (July 18, 2007) – Scattered showers and
thunderstorms recently provided many Kentucky locations with
measurable rainfall, with the south central section of the state
receiving locally heavy rainfall of 2 to 3 inches. Still, the
majority of the state continues in severe hydrologic drought. In
response, the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture has
appointed a quick response team to put together a drought
information Web site.
The team is made up of county extension agents and extension
specialists who are working to provide information and decision
aids to assist farmers, homeowners and others in dealing with
the impacts of the drought.
The major categories of information on the site include crops,
livestock and forages, weather, weeds, pests and disease
problems, home conservation, horticulture/home landscape, turf
for sport fields, forestry and resource personnel.
Extension agents are available in every county to assist and
help Kentuckians use the information on the
site .
For specific drought and climate-related questions, the UK Ag
Weather Center offers a Web site for users to
ask the experts.
Users may also browse other questions and answers
archived on the site. |
