A vegetable grower in western Kentucky is helping meet that demand for locally grown fresh produce with hydroponic tomatoes and other produce grown indoors, year round.

It has been the only green spot at UK’s Spindletop Research Farm during droughts of the past few summers - a warm season Bermuda grass developed to thrive in the hot, dry days of summer.

These days, more people are growing their own vegetables, saving food costs and connecting with nature in the process.  It’s About You focuses on home gardening, organics and community supported agriculture.

Some commercial tree nurseries are experimenting with a half-rate pesticide program to lower their costs while still eliminating pests, helping the environment and improving the bottom line.

Day camps are a way to keep children active and still learning in the summer.  A school day camp in eastern Kentucky turned to the local Cooperative Extension Service to help provide a wide variety of learning activities.

As many as one in seven Kentuckians has diabetes.  New research at the University of Kentucky will hopefully lead to better treatments and even a cure.
