WEBSTER COUNTY
FARMERS...Hurricane ravaged farmers in Louisiana received some much
needed help from their southern neighbors in Kentucky. Some Webster
County farmers answered the call by donating and delivering three truck
loads of grain to feed starving cattle.
MUHLENBERG TEENS…Some
teenagers in Muhlenberg County are fighting back to keep other teens and
younger children from falling prey to the use of dangerous drugs and
narcotics. The teenagers have formed a group called STAND, Students
Teaching About Narcotics’ Dangers.
HORSE COLLEGE…It’s
called Horse College and is an Extension program from the UK College of
Agriculture. Horse College has been offered in several counties around
the state consisting of in depth topics relating to horses.
DON’T SUGAR COAT…This
month’s feature from the new My Pyramid Food Guide focuses on encouraging
children to healthy snacks. Breathitt County Extension Agent Martha Yount
reminds us not to sugar coat.
BODY
WALK…One way to teach children about their bodies and how important
their organs are is to observe each organ, learn about its function and how
important good nutrition is to keep body parts healthy. That’s what fifth
graders had the chance to do in Ohio County as they went on a Body Walk.
4H CAPITOL EXPERIENCE…For
the third straight year 4H’ers from all across Kentucky headed to the state
capitol in Frankfort for a 4H Capitol Experience. More than fifteen hundred
4H’ers, volunteers and Extension personnel participated in this year’s
event.
