PASTURE TO PLATE…Encouraging
beef producers to take pride in the cattle that they raise on their farms is
the goal of a program called Pasture to Plate. Pasture to Plate originated
at Iowa State University and has spread to 15 other states including
Kentucky. About 25 producers have put calves through the program in Hardin
County and now those producers are reaping the rewards.
BEEF
FESTIVAL…It’s a state that was once known for tobacco, but with
Kentucky’s forage potential, it is making a name for itself in the beef
industry. That trend was celebrated recently at Kentucky’s first Fort Harrod
Beef Festival in Mercer County.

summer’s grape harvest for wine production in Kentucky is being put through

adjustments to ensure uniformity. Now comes the real test, how does it
taste?
HEALTH ROCKS…This
summer, children in Wayne County have been learning about how to live
healthy lifestyles through a program called Health Rocks. The week long
program was for children, ages 9 to 13, and they learned that living healthy
does indeed, rock.

dietary guidelines from the USDA’s new “My Pyramid” recommends that we eat
five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. At no time is that easier
than now, during the height of the summer growing season.
