Jimmy Henning…is
the new Associate Director for Extension at the
University of Kentucky. Henning takes over the
position for the late Larry Turner who was killed in
the Comair plane crash in Lexington last August.
Henning sits down for an interview on Extension
Today On the Air.

High Tech Beef Research…With
a $900,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security,
researchers in the UK College of Agriculture could give farmers
a real-time, inexpensive way of spotting signs of illness
earlier, thus making treatment quicker and more effective.

McCreary County Students Go Hiking…Gifted
and talented students from McCreary County Middle School are being
introduced to nature with a monthly hike in the Big South Fork
National Forest this school year. Extension Today went hiking with
the students along with McCreary County Extension Agent for
Agriculture and Natural Resources Greg Whitis, who came up with the
idea. |

Christian County 4-H Youth Farm Day...
One of the many
aspects of the 4-H Youth Development Program is that it teaches
young people leadership skills. No where is that more evident than
in Christian County, as 4-H club members led tours, taught lessons
and mentored first graders at the annual 4-H youth farm day. |

Kids in the Kitchen/Get Moving…In
Owensboro and Bowling Green, young people are learning and getting
physically active at the same time. Kids in the Kitchen at the
Daviess County Cooperative Extension Service taught third and fourth
grade girls the importance of eating the daily fruit and vegetable
consumption in a fun, interactive way. The Warren County
Cooperative Extension Service had Lost River Elementary fourth
graders busy the last eight weeks of the school year with “Get
Moving Lost River.” The students kept a log of how many minutes
they were physically active with the boy and girl with the most
minutes received a brand new bike. |

Extension Homemakers International "Beanie
Babies" Project…Every
year Kentucky’s Extension Homemakers Association contributes to an
international project. This year, the Homemakers brought in
thousands of beanie baby stuffed toys U.S. soldiers to give to Iraqi
children. |
