ALLTECH GRANT…The
University of Kentucky College of Agriculture and
Alltech, the international biotechnology company
based in the Bluegrass, have teamed up again.
Thanks to to a $900,000 grant from Alltech, UK will
help advance research in the emerging field of
nutrigenomics.

FREEZE DAMAGE…It’s
been called the “Easter Freeze,” describing the devastatingly
cold temperatures that gripped Kentucky for three to five days
beginning April 5. UK Extension Horticulture Specialists weigh
in about the outlook for this year’s fruit crop in Kentucky.

DEAN CHARLES BARNHART…Extension
Today recognizes the passing of the former Dean and Director of the
College of Agriculture Charles Barnhart. Dean Barnhart passed away
April 1 at the age of 84. He led the College of Agriculture as Dean
from 1969 to 1988.

I LOVE COWS…A
statewide I Love Cows essay contest keeps alive the spirit of Dustin
Worthington. The Mercer County teen loved cows, but his life was
cut short in a car accident seven years ago. His parents started
the essay contest with the help of the Mercer County Cooperative
Extension Service to honor his memory. |

GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP…A
community-wide spring cleanup is underway in Fayette County with the
Great American Cleanup and the UK College of Agriculture is lending
a hand. |

WASHINGTON COUNTY YOUTH GARDENING PROJECT…One
way to reach young people who may have mental, physical or
behavioral disabilities is through gardening. That’s what is
happening in Washington County with the help of the Cooperative
Extension Service and other community partners. |
