ATV
SAFETY PROGRAM…They
seem to be in the news almost weekly, a child or teenager has been killed
or severely injured in an all terrain vehicle accident. Some people in
Muhlenberg County said enough and were awarded a grant from the National
4H Organization to have a two-day ATV safety program at the West Ky 4H
Camp.
QUILT
SQUARES…Barns
along the rural countryside have been used to advertise everything from
chewing tobacco to soft drinks, but that is changing. The Elliott County
Cooperative Extension Service along with agent Gwenda Adkins and some
volunteers are sprucing up those barns. They are putting painted quilt
squares on the barns as a way to celebrate the region’s rich heritage and
culture and create tourism.
OLD
MULKEY MARATHON…Car
washes and bake sales are fund raisers for some civic organizations, but
in Monroe County 4Hers are doing something completely different. Each
fall they hold a distance race for runners and walkers called the Old
Mulkey Classic, a 26 mile marathon that has attracted the interest of
runners from all over the United States.
UK
CENTER FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT…Assistant
Director Grace Gorrell says the Center for Leadership Development is “still
under construction” but it is still helping to develop leaders in Kentucky.
That is evident in the upcoming program, Unbridling the Spirit of Leadership
in Kentucky Communities, December 2 at Lexington Center, with Dr. John
Maxwell, one of the nation’s foremost experts on leadership and teamwork.
TAILGATING WITH CHEF DAVID JAMES…Even
though it’s getting near the end of the tailgating season for football, it’s
never too late to learn some new recipes for the next time you entertain
guests. That was the idea behind a special evening at the Madison County
Extension office with Chef David James.
