		CHINESE VISIT….The UK College of Agriculture’s expertise in the production and containment of plants modified for pharmaceutical use is gaining international attention. A delegation of Chinese agricultural professionals came to Lexington to see tobacco plots being grown by the Kentucky Tobacco Research and Development Center.
		BIOTECHNOLOGY CAMP….Some middle school students from western Kentucky played crime scene investigators at a biotechnology camp using the newest scientific technology available. The crime scene, a simulated murder investigation, allowed the students to use DNA testing as they explored careers in the field of biotechnology.
		HURRICANE RELIEF…Communities all across the country have jumped into action helping victims of the recent hurricanes. Kentucky has been right there helping our southern neighbors and the Cooperative Extension Service has done its part organizing food and clothing drives and raising money. That was the case in Jessamine County where the Extension Service played a key role in hurricane relief efforts.
		HORSESHOEING SCHOOL…One of the many responsibilities of being a horse owner is good hoof care. It’s considered so important that students in the UK Equine Science program spend a day getting hands-on experience at Kentucky’s only horseshoeing school in Shelby County.
		PUMPKIN RESEARCH…The demand for pumpkins for fall decorating is growing and Kentucky farmers are trying to keep up with that demand. Making sure consumers get healthy, disease-free pumpkins is the focus of a herbicide research study at UK’s Research and Education Center at Princeton.
		STONE FENCE – RADON POSTER CONTEST – AG ROUNDUP – FARM FORUM BILL…Fall is a very busy time in the UK College of Agriculture with a variety events taking place. A newly renovated section of a stone fence at Maine Chance Farm was dedicated, the first ever Radon Poster Contest was held, Ag Roundup is celebrated on the UK Campus once again, and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns comes to Kentucky to hold a Farm Bill Forum, are just a few of the highlights.
		TOMATO TASTE-TESTING…Tomato lovers had the opportunity to do some taste testing at the University of Kentucky this summer as willing participants were invited to sample a variety of tomatoes, then give feedback on what their taste buds told them.
