DISTRICT 4-H YOUTH BEEF SHOWS

DESCRIPTION

A series of District Youth Beef Shows are held across the state each year.

OBJECTIVE

1. To provide an opportunity for 4-H beef members to evaluate their project in District competition.
2. To become better acquainted with other beef producers in the state.
3. To provide recognition for outstanding accomplishment in beef projects.

AUDIENCE

4-H members enrolled in 4-H Beef projects. Steers, females and bred and owned bulls are eligible.

DATES

The 4-H District Youth Beef Shows are traditionally held in May, June and July each year. Dates to be announced.

AGENT RESPONSIBILITY

1. To certify the proper identification and ownership on beef heifer animals entered from the county and to submit the county entries by the published entry deadline.
2. To give assistance at District and State Youth Beef shows as needed.
3. To give support and publicity to the beef heifer exhibitors from the county.

BEEF CATTLE

BREEDING AND/OR MEAT ANIMAL SCHOLARSHIP

Five $1,000 scholarships are available for 4-H youth in either the breeding or meat animal projects. The award is sponsored by the Kentucky Cattlemen's Foundation.

ELIGIBILITY

1. Submit a completed copy of the application form to the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association, 176 Pasadena Drive, Lexington, KY 40503, no later than July 1 of the application year.
2. Graduate from high school in the year of application.
3. Be accepted for enrollment in a Kentucky college or other institution of higher education for the fall semester of the year of application.
4. Planning to major in Agriculture or an agriculturally related subject.
5. Be an undergraduate enrolled in Agriculture or agriculturally related field in a Kentucky college or other institution of higher learning.
6. Have a letter of recommendation by the Agent responsible for 4-H submitted directly to the KCA office at the above address.

The recipient of the award will be announced during the Kentucky State Fair. For more information contact John T. Johns, Beef Cattle Specialist.
