We are pleased to announce details for our 17th annual 4-H Issues Conference to be held November 17-20 at the Kentucky Leadership Center near Jabez.  The conference helps young people learn skills needed to bring about positive change in their communities.  Youth learn those skills while studying about contemporary issues of concern to them.  After the conference, delegates are expected to provide leadership to community-based programs that address locally identified needs.  Below are links to important information about the conference.

DESCRIPTION
The annual Youth Issues Conference is a four-day gathering of top student leaders from across the Commonwealth. The conference is held annually during the fall. It is open to high school sophomores and juniors who display leadership potential and who will make a commitment to implement what they learn back home. Adults and Extension Agents are also eligible to attend as members of a county team. Team size is limited to two youth and one adult participant per county. Counties may use the unused quotas of other counties in the area so long as the quota for the area as a whole is not exceeded. The conference will be held at the Kentucky Leadership Center - November 17-20, 2005.

Before coming to the conference, delegates are asked to assemble scrapbooks composed of newspaper and magazine articles, photographs, pamphlets, and other materials on an issue of interest to them. At the conference, participants share thoughts and concerns regarding those issues and learn the process skills necessary to organize for community action back home. Delegates use a case study methodology to practice applying what they learn.

OBJECTIVES
*To help young people become more effective advocates for the needs of youth in today's society;
*To help young people believe that they can be resources for bringing about positive change in their community;
*To help young people acquire the skills they need to give leadership to local change efforts; and
*To help young people become knowledgeable about the issues which affect them.

FEES AND DEADLINES
The registration fee for the conference is $110 per participant. The planning committee suggests that delegates pay half of the cost and the sponsoring county pay the remainder. All registration fees and application forms are due to Lisa Adams, Fayette County Extension Office by October 1.  Checks should be made payable to Friends of Kentucky 4-H, Inc. Please put “Issues Conference” in memo line.
