About the KYDP:
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Family Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) awarded a State Youth Development Collaboration Demonstration Project grant to Kentucky from September 30, 2000 until September 29, 2003. Kentucky has been able to utilize this grant to build on progress of both the Kentucky Child 2000 Assets Workgroup, started in 1998, and the Kentucky Youth Policy Network that was formed in January 2000 with the assistance of the National Governor’s Association Center for Best Practices Youth Policy Network technical assistance grant. The result of the merger of these two initiatives was the creation of the Kentucky Youth Development Partnership (KYDP), a public/private partnership of 25 key youth development stakeholders that has the vision of “Youth are respected, valued, and have access to the resources, opportunities and support they need to be healthy and successful.”
In September of 2003 the DHHS Family Youth Services Bureau awarded the Kentucky 4-H Program application for the Positive Youth Development State and Local Collaboration Demonstration Project. This demonstration project is for a five-year period and will continue to support 4-H’s Kentucky Youth Development Partnership project, which was created in partnership with Kentucky Child Now! in October of 2000.
The focus of this new demonstration project will be the collaboration of state partners with one community to provide youth with: (1) Increased opportunities and avenues for the positive use of their time; (2) Increased opportunities for positive self-expression; and (3) Increased opportunities for youth participation and civic engagement.
