The problem of physical inactivity and the health issues related to it, such as overweight and obesity, are no longer just an adult issue. The lack of physical activity is becoming a major factor in the health of children. It is time for Kentucky children to get moving! Get Moving Kentucky! is a fun, family oriented physical activity program. Participants keep track of the amount of physical activity done each day for the 8 weeks of the program. While participating in the program you can learn more about physical activity and just how fun it can be by participating in the Youth Health Lesson Series. The Get Moving Kentucky! Youth Health Lesson Series is designed as a tool to help in the adaptation of the Get Moving Kentucky! program for younger age groups. The goal of these lessons is to teach children that physical activity is FUN.
The lessons contain information on physical activity and health issues specifically designed for children. The target age group for the material is 4th through 6th grade, but it can easily be adapted to target younger or older children. The lessons are designed to provide a fun and active learning experience that will educate children on how physical activity affects their health. Activities are included to get children involved and improve their attitude towards being physically active. In addition, a take-home handout is provided for both families and youth.
