Plant: Blackberry (Rubus subg. Eubatus) (Rosaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: gall
Causal agent: possibly a Diplolepis sp., a cynipid gall wasp
Signs: found an immature wasp inside individual galls

Plant: Blackberry (Rubus subg. Eubatus) (Rosaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: Double blossom or rosette
Causal agent: Cercosporella (fungus)
Signs: spores visible under miscroscopic examination.
The 3rd image shows conidiophores emerged from the outer surface of a floral bud.
Symptoms: proliferation of small, leafy shoots instead of normal shoot growth

Total image number: 4

Plant: Raspberry (Rubus subg. Idaeobatus) (Rosaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: Septoria leaf spot
Causal agent: Septoria ribis (fungus)
Signs: spore-producing bodies ("pycnidia") can be seen within leaf spots.
Symptoms: brown leaf spots can coalesce to form blighted areas
Total image number: 4

Plant: Grape (Vitus sp.) (Vitaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: Black rot (fruit phase)
Causal agent: Guignardia bidwelli (fungus) Fungus shown is the a sexual stage Phyllosticta ampelicida.
Signs: dark spore-producing bodies ("pycnidia") and sometimes oozings of spores can be seen within the infected area.

Symptoms: tan spots on fruit which will evetually cause the entire fruit to decay and mummify
Total image number: 4

Plant: Grape (Vitus sp.) (Vitaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: Anthracnose, fruit rot phase called Bird's eye rot
Causal agent: Sphaceloma ampelimun (fungus)
Signs: spore-producing bodies ("acervuli") can be seen within leaf spots.
Symptoms: brown leaf spots can coalesce to form blighted areas
Total image number: 12

Grape (Vitus sp.) (Vitaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: herbicide injury
Causal agent: growth regulator (e.g. 2,4-D)
Signs: none

Plant: Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) (Rosaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: Leaf spot
Causal agent: Mycosphaerella fragariae (fungus)
Signs: in the center portion of the spot is a patch of tan-colored mycelium which contains colorless conidiophores and conidia (Note: Blue stain was used to emphasize the conidiophores and conidia.)
Symptoms: tan-centered spots with a purple border

Plant: Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) (Rosaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: Anthracnose fruit rot
Causal agent: Colletotrichum sp. (fungus)
Signs: Within the sunken areas of the fruit, the slightly raised, orange bumps are acervuli, spore producing structures of the fungus. Orange masses of spores are produced within these acervuli.
Symptoms: Light brown, water-soaked spots on ripening fruit.
NOTE: Symptoms on fruit on the far left, are not due to Anthracnose fruit rot.
