Plant: Wheat (Triticum aestivum) (Graminaceae) Back to List
Disease/Disorder: Stripe rust
Causal agent: Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (fungus)
Signs: Yellow rust spores.
Symptoms: Pustules usually arranged in streaks or stripes but when severe can cover the entire leaf.

Disease/Disorder: Sharp eyespot
Causal agent: Rhizoctonia cerealis (fungus)
Signs:
Symptoms: A lens-shaped lesion on the lower stem near the soil. This is seen after removing the leaf sheaths from around the stem. See the Compendium of Wheat Diseases, 2nd edition by APS Press, page 50.

Causal agent: Pyrenophora tritici-repentis (fungus)
Signs: Conidia and conidiophores of the anamorph fungus Drechslera tritici-repentis.
Symptoms: brown spots with a yellow halo on leaves.

Causal agent: Septoria tritici (fungus)
Signs: Dark pycnidia and hyline conidia.
Symptoms: brown spot with a yellow halo and small, dark specks in the center on leaves.

Causal agent: Stagonospora nodorum (fungus)
Signs: light brown pycnidia with spores sometimes exuded in a pink brown mass
Symptoms: brown, oval spot with yellow halo on leaves.
