Kentucky News updated as of March 2, 2009

  • Hello Everyone,

Soybean rust specialists across the country began their 2009 teleconference calls and updates today. Below is the current status of SBR in the U.S. and Mexico. The most notable outcome of the meeting was that SBR, thus far, has survived the winter in Louisiana at higher levels than had been seen in previous years. But note, there are still plenty of opportunities for a cold weather to knock out currently positive sites, probably everywhere but Mexico and extreme southern Texas.

States are gearing up for 2009 SBR monitoring activities. Despite some reduction in operating expenses, overall, I do not expect the 2009 SBR monitoring effort to be substantively different from what we did in 2008.

I will begin updating the Kentucky Soybean Promotion Board SBR Hotline (888-321-6771) in late April; earlier if needed.

    Have a rust-free day!
