Kentucky News updated as of August 2, 2008

  • Hello Everyone,

As you can see from the below maps, soybean rust finds so far this year in the U.S. are considerably behind what we had this time a year ago. Hurricane Dolly will likely result in new finds and increased SBR activity in Gulf Coast states that currently have active rust (TX, LA, MS, FL). However, increases will not be evident in those states for at least 3 weeks after Dolly passes through.

Dolly might be the catalyst that will eventually result in soybean rust being found in KY, but that would be at least 6-8 weeks down the road. Thus, we are likely to see little (probably no) rust in KY until at least mid-to late September.

All is clear at this time and no spraying for soybean rust is necessary in the state of KY. If anything changes, you will be the first to know. I am currently updating the KY SBR hotline twice a week (usually Mondays and Fridays)
