Kentucky News updated as of October 05, 2008

  • Hello Everyone,

As you can see, soybean rust (SBR) is creeping ever closer to KY. Yesterday, SBR was found in far southwest TN and today it was reported in central TN (go to www.sbrusa.net for details). I am sure we will eventually find SBR in Kentucky but there is no potential for the disease to damage crop yields here. We have been very dry over the past two months, as has most of west Tennessee. However, most of KY missed the rain that attended Hurricane Ike. West TN, however, got some. There are been almost 20 finds in Alabama and Mississippi over the past couple of days, so things are moving along in those states. The number of finds in North and South Carolina and Louisiana has also been noteworthy.

    We will keep looking.
