- Dr. Peter Nagy received the 2008 Ruth Allen Award from the American Phytopathological Society (APS) at its Centennial Meeting in Minneapolis. The APS is the principal, international association of plant pathologists. Its Ruth Allen Award "honors individuals who have made an outstanding, innovative research contribution that has changed, or has the potential to change, the direction of research in any field of plant pathology." Dr. Nagy was recognized for his breakthrough research concerning viral replication and recombination which is having profound influence across all of virology, opening new vistas on how more virulent strains of viruses evolve.
At the APS meetings this week, there were 21 awards given and 7 of those had Kentucky connections.

Two of our faculty were honored by The American Phytopathological Society (APS). Dr. Donald Hershman was selected for the Excellence in Extension Award, and Dr. Paul Vincelli received the APS Excellence in Teaching Award.
