Ag Alumni Association Awards

Each year the UK Ag Alumni Association makes grants to county Extension agents, faculty, and staff for programs or purchases of merit. The grants are funded from an endowment fund supported by alumni dues. This year, $6,000 in grants was awarded.

Cooperative Extension Service agents receiving grants:

• Sara Bogle (Fulton County): $700 for a serger to use in Family and Consumer Sciences sewing programs.
• Carol Hinton (Breckinridge County): $1,000 for a viewing screen and portable speaker system for the Extension office.
• Tyrone West Gentry (Green County): $600 for a global positioning system (GPS) and a compass training kit to help youth learn about orienteering.
• Vicki Wynn (Marshall County): $700 for a rack to hold publications at the Extension office.

Faculty & staff receiving grants:

• Roberta Dwyer (Veterinary Science) and Deborah Witham (Community and Leadership Development): $1,000 to develop and conduct a leadership workshop early in the fall semester for all officers and faculty advisors for clubs in the UK College of Agriculture, including Ag Student Council members.
• Antoinette Greider (Agricultural Information Center): $1,500 for 10 zip drives and two CD burners for the student laptop loan program.
• Zelia Holloway (Student and Academic Services): $500 for visual materials and travel costs of students representing the College in Atlanta at the 2003 National Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences Training Conference and Career Fair.

Ag Alums & Friends Enjoy First Annual Benefit
Golf Scramble

The Agriculture Alumni Association hosted its first annual Scholarship Golf Scramble at the University Club in April. Fifty-five golfers made up 14 teams and had a great afternoon of golf, food, fun, and fellowship! The event raised $3,000 in scholarship funds for undergraduates in the College of Ag—money that will be of great benefit to our students.

The event included contests for closest to the pin, longest drive, and putting. A cookout followed the scramble.

Trophies were awarded as well as prizes including a DVD player, golf items, golf course passes, and 30 minutes of free golf lessons (for the last-place team).
The support of the 25 sponsors of the event was very much appreciated!
