Silage
silage is high quality, high moisture plant material that has been fermented in a silo
it is convenient and economical, especially for dairy cattle, though it is increasingly used for backgrounding and finishing beef cattle
there are fewer harvest and field losses with silage than with
hay
many crops are used for silage, but the most popular is corn, followed by grain sorghum
silages are very palatable
silages contain approximately 60-70% moisture as-fed
