Fish Meal

Characteristics:

  • the clean, dried, ground tissue of fish or fish cuttings with or without the extraction of oil
  • a by-product of the fisheries industry
  • traditionally used extensively in poultry feed but can also be used in aquaculture feeds, weaned pig feeds, and as rumen by-pass feeds
  • varies in protein content depending on type of fish
  • excellent source of minerals
  • frequently limited in diets because palatibility can be a problem
