- Originated on the Isle of Jersey in the 1700s
- Jerseys represent 5% of the U.S. Dairy Herd
- Characteristics:
- small framed
- broad, dished face
- light tan or gray to deep fawn to brownish black
- 10, 608 lbs of milk per lactation with 4.7% (provide highest total solids of all dairy breeds)
- mature female weights 1000 lbs; a newborn weighs 60 lbs
