Jersey
  • Originated on the Isle of Jersey in the 1700s
  • Jerseys represent 5% of the U.S. Dairy Herd
  • Characteristics:
    • small framed
    • broad, dished face
    • light tan or gray to deep fawn to brownish black
    • 10, 608 lbs of milk per lactation with 4.7% (provide highest total solids of all dairy breeds)
    • mature female weights 1000 lbs; a newborn weighs 60 lbs
