Fecal Coliform Bacteria

Fecal coliform bacteria are a group of bacteria that are passed through the fecal excrement of humans, livestock and wildlife. These organisms can enter rivers through runoff. While these bacteria due not directly cause disease, high quantities of fecal coliform bacteria suggest the presence of disease causing agents. Possible diseases cause by this type water contamination include dysentery, typhoid fever, hepatitis and gastroenteritis.
