Food Aid

Food aid is the provision of food commodities or the funds to purchase food commodities to a nation experiencing a crisis. This aid may be from other national governments or from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), such as the International Red Cross or Save the Children. This is considered to be a temporary assistance as opposed to technical assistance which is designed to enhance the capacity of a nation to produce its own food.

For example, the U.S. government contributes to an international food reserve to be used when nations are experiencing a food crisis created by war, drought, disaster, or population displacemen, but also provides teams of agricultural experts as consultants to nations seeking to increase agricultural productivity.
