Grasshopper Plagues

Grasshopper is the common name for a certain group of winged insects that have large hind legs that are adapted for jumping. During the 1870s, Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas were swarmed with grasshoppers that destroyed their crops. This devastation became known as the grasshopper plagues.
