Manure

Manure is the solid or liquid waste from livestock including excrement and bedding material generated from livestock operations. Over 1 billion tons of manure is produced annually from livestock production systems. If the manure is not stored or disposed of properly, contamination of water sources could occur.

Manure can also be used as fertilizer. Farmers learned if they applied manure to their crops, production yields increased. Manuring can improve soil with nutrients and humus. It contains approximately .5 - .25 of .5% NPK. At least 2/3 of the N is in the slow release form.

Adding manure to the soil is even more important because microorganisms in the soil decompose the excrement.

Manure can be added to the soil by a hand, a manure spreader, it can be composted etc.
