Animal Waste Facilities

Animal waste facilities include storage and treatment facilities. Storage is the containment of waste for a period of time. Animal waste can be stored as a solid, a semisolid or a liquid. Some examples of waste storage facilities are ponds, buildings or storage tanks.

Treatment involves any function that decreases the potential pollution in waste. This could be a biological, chemical or physical treatment. Some treatment methods include lagoons, composting or oxidation ditches. All of these processes reduce nutrients, solids and pathogens.
