Buffer Strip

A strip of grass or other close-growing perennial vegetation. It can be used to separate a watercourse (river, creek, stream, etc.) from an intensive land-use area to prevent sediment entry into drainage channels or as a protection from runoff and wind erosion in a strip cropping system.
