Grazing Fees
Grazing fees are fees that are assessed to a livestock producer for the privilege of grazing livestock on rangeland that he or she does not own. These rangelands can be private or public. Approximately, 270 million acres of public rangeland are available to about 2% of America's livestock producers to graze domestic livestock.
Fees are based on animal unit month (AUM) or the amount of forage it takes to feed one cow or cow/calf pair for one month. Fees range from $1.92 per AUM for public rangeland to $7.00 per AUM for private land.
