Agrosecurity Trainings
Note:  All of these training have been held

Recent weather events (Hurricane Ike of 2008 and the Ice Storm of 2009) have highlighted the importance of agricultural emergency planning and response.  Elected officials, including Governor Beshear, county judges/executive, and magistrates have emphasized the need to reevaluate emergency operations plans.  These plans should address the unique needs of agriculture.

Extension can offer value to local elected officials who are ultimately responsible for safeguarding agriculture and companion animals (per the PETS Act).  Continuing education credits have been approved through the Department of Local Government for all elected officials who attend Extension training in this area.

The Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) has developed two educational training opportunities that will be presented in Kentucky this spring.  Promotional flyers are attached and a press release through Agricultural Communications will be distributed in mid-April.  If there are additional promotional materials that will assist you in promoting these trainings to your county stakeholders, please contact us and we will be happy to provide assistance however we can.  Dr. Jimmy Henning strongly supports Extension Agents’ recruitment of seminar participants, and most importantly, county agricultural emergency planning teams for the workshop.

The two different trainings are listed/linked below:
