Flavr Savr Tomato The Flavr Savr tomato is a genetically altered tomato developed by Calgene. It contains an antisense RNA which inhibits the expression of a gene that normally causes fruit to soften, therefore, the fruit stays firm longer. This allows producers a greater period of time for transportation and the opportunity for mechanical harvesting with little bruising.
