Simple Steps to Conserve Water at Home
Conserving water is something we all can do each day in our
homes. We need to conserve water because the supply is limited,
and it is costly to pump, move and purify. Follow these tips to
conserve water each day.
- Repair leaky faucets. One dripping faucet can use up to 25
gallons of water a day.
- Check your toilet for leaks. Place 3 or 4 drops of food coloring
in the tank. Leave the toilet alone for 15 minutes, then check the
bowl. If the color shows up in the bowl, you have a leak.
- Take shorter showers. Try to limit yourself to five minutes or
less.
- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, shaving or washing your hands.
- Wash full loads of clothes. If your washer has a load-size
adjustment, make sure you set it to match your load size.
- Use a pan or sink of water to rinse dishes instead of rinsing
them under a running faucet.
By taking simple steps each day, we all can cut our water use.
